Seeing through Him.

The Cure of St. Sulpice, Paris, wishing to induce the octagenarian millionaire, Samuel Bernard, to leave a large sum of money to his church, visited him with great assiduity during his last illness, and endeavoured to soothe his pains by numerous little attentions. Onone occasion, when the priest's solicitude was more than usually demonstrative, the old man (whose mind was as clear and his wit as fine as ever),scarcely turning his head, said to the cure, "Hide your cards, monsieur; for Ican see all your play."
